According to a newly launched website, the upcoming two-part Rowling play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, is officially a Harry Potter sequel.
This isn’t even kind of a sequel. The official synopsis makes it clear that Harry Potter features in more than just the play’s title:
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
The play, which is being performed in two parts at the Palace Theatre in London, could very well, if we’re lucky, pave the way to a whole new book series of magical adventures from Rowling, potentially starring Harry’s son Albus. And surely, if Warner Bros. has anything to say about it, The Cursed Child will eventually become a movie.
