Renowned Lebanese fashion designer Basil Soda passed away Monday, after a long battle with cancer, according to local media.
Soda is famous for designing red-carpet gowns for the cream of A-list celebrities over the past decade.
He first became known in the United States and Europe when he launched his own brand. In 2001 he opened his fashion house in Beirut, and since then continued to cater for Arab and foreign celebrities as well as Hollywood’s top stars.
Soda was born in Beirut to a tailor father. During his teenage years, he had an interest for sewing but nonetheless decided to study architecture. His vocation caught up with him as he joined Choueteir, one of the oldest fashion houses in Beirut, and also took at the same time classes at the CAMM, the Cour Artistique de la Mode Moderne, a school that offers special classes on modern fashion.
He is survived by his amazing work in the fashion world.
