L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” reveals the names of the 2016 fellows

The “L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science” program selected five outstanding female researchers from Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Syria and Jordan, to win the Levant and Egypt Fellowship. These fellows will be honored during a ceremony that will be held on the 20th of September 2016 at the “Ecole Supérieure des Affaires” (ESA) in Clemenceau. Each one of them will receive a fellowship in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of science.

The names of the five winners will be revealed in a ceremony held under the patronage of Mrs. Randa Assi Berri, Vice President of the National Commission for Lebanese Women and Head of the Board of Trustees at Phoenicia University, in presence of L’Oréal Levant Managing Director Mr. Philippe Patsalides and Professor Mouin Hamze, Secretary General of the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon.

The “For Women in Science” program is an international cooperation between the L’Oréal Foundation and UNESCO, which aims at distinguishing eminent female researchers from around the world. Since the creation of L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” in 1998, 2,530 women have been awarded in 112 countries.

The aim of the L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” Levant and Egypt regional fellowships, launched in 2014 in partnership with the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon, is to empower and support Arab women in the field of science and research. Moreover it brings visibility to the important role that they are playing in the scientific field. Every year, five outstanding Arab female researchers are chosen and each fellow receives € 10,000 in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of science and to further progress her career.
