Day after day, Rebirth Beirut proves that its presence is more than necessary, especially during these difficult circumstances that Lebanon is witnessing.
“Light Up Our Community” initiative, was launched on the evening of Sunday, May 22nd, at the association’s headquarters in Gemmayzeh, in the presence of a large number of personalities, media figures and activists and under the patronage of Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud.
Mr. Gaby Fernaine, President of Rebirth Beirut, considered in his opening speech that Beirut deserves all this because it’s the capital of love and life.
He said in his speech: “We are launching today’s initiative in cooperation with Medco, which will provide incentives to owners of generators and buildings that have been involved in the initiative. I also thank the local community support program funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which supplied and installed 500 LED lighting devices in Beirut’s most affected streets after the explosion of the port in 2020”.
In her turn, Ms. Michelle Shammas, chief innovation officer at Medco, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, saying: “Our dream is for Beirut to live and to remain alive all the time. Thanks to rebirth Beirut we are able to give back to our community and support our capital”.
The head of the Syndicate of Restaurants, Cafes, Nightclubs and Patisserie in Lebanon, Tony Al-Rami, considered in his word that: “This initiative comes in a very difficult working conditions for the owners of institutions and in a country without a capital for tourism and without major hotels in operation”. Al-Rami added: I thank Mr. Fernaine on behalf of our sector and all the restaurants and pubs of the city.
The closing speech was given by the Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud who considered that ” the emergence of these initiatives come is due to the weakness and absence of the state. Governor Abboud described Fernaine to be a super dynamic person for brining many initiatives to the town and to restore confidence to Beirut, which we love.
He and his team never stop working and achieving a challenge after another and we feel so proud to have people like him in our city”.
