Aligned with its position of leadership in healthcare and community services, the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and its Faculty of Medicine signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Makhzoumi Foundation’s (MF) healthcare facilities and services, paving the way in supporting graduate medical education and providing high quality patient care.
The signing ceremony, held on Friday, March 10, 2017, attested to AUBMC’s commitment to capacity building locally and regionally by focusing on patient care, education, and training in its strategic partnerships. The event, which took place at Saab Medical Library, AUB, was attended by Dr. Mohamed H. Sayegh, Executive VP for Medicine and Global Strategy and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Hassan El Solh, Medical Center Director and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kamal Badr, Associate Dean for Medical Education, Mrs. May Makhzoumi, President of the Makhzoumi Foundation, and Dr. Fouad Makhzoumi, Founder of the Makhzoumi Foundation.
In his welcoming speech, Dr. Hassan El Solh said, “This agreement is of significant importance to AUBMC be it for physicians, nursing staff, and all healthcare providers in the Medical Center as it will facilitate serving the Community.”
“We are delighted that the MF and AUBMC have finally started a formal collaboration. Our initial experience at the Makhzoumi Clinics has been superb, and we hope to build on this early beginning to develop a wide-ranging symbiotic relationship in healthcare delivery and graduate medical education,” said Dr. Badr.
Founder of Makhzoumi Foundation, Dr. Fouad Makhzoumi said, “We are extremely excited to be partners with the reputable American University of Beirut in the scope of Internal Medicine. This collaboration is a testimony to the level of improvement that we have reached in the provision of health services.”
With this agreement put into action, patients served by the Makhzoumi Foundation Clinics will gain access to AUB residents and faculty and accordingly be the primary beneficiaries. Along the same lines, AUB and AUBMC will expand and enrich training programs in many medical specialties.
Collaborating with the Makhzoumi Foundation’s healthcare facilities, an independent, and not-for-profit non-governmental organization empowering individuals for a better community, reinforces AUBMC’s pioneering role in supporting graduate medical education, while acting as a gateway to assure high quality patient care to its target population. This will ultimately lay the ground for further cooperation between the two institutions in the future, keeping AUBMC at the forefront of medical advances and patient care in Lebanon and the region.
Mrs. May Makhzoumi commented, “This agreement fits well with the mission and vision of both Makhzoumi Foundation and the Faculty of Medicine at AUBMC. It will give all healthcare workers, and ultimately our patients, access to better-quality and advanced medical care.”
