“A strong woman is a woman that loves herself for who she is, stands for her rights and values, yet can still feel sensual and desired,” this is how Taghrid Hodroj, the founder of TAGHRID HODROJ COLLECTION, defines “Strong Women” – the main inspiration behind her latest collection. “Women are stepping up more and more and fighting for equality all over the world, I want women to feel empowered, loved and appreciated when wearing my clothes and knowing that they are being part of supporting other women”, says the American fashion designer who has a big desire to help and support other women, and who recently joined a non-profit organization called “Set Her Free” to support women in need.

Born in Lebanon, Hodroj’s love for fashion was nurtured at a very young age thanks in part to her mother’s business. “My mother owned a factory for kids clothing; I remember receiving a doll when I was about 5 years old from my parents for my birthday, and literally taking the fabric from my mom and sawing all kind of clothing for the doll: dresses, skirts, pants, tops… Even hats and socks!”, she recalls. She visited her mother’s factory frequently as a child and was amazed by all the machines and fabrics.

Hodroj ended up studying fashion design at Esmod in Paris, before moving to the United States. She cites Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab as one of her main influences: “When it comes to haute couture, Elie Saab is my inspiration, his art and details are magical. As for ready-to-wear, I love Proenza Schouler and Altuzarra”, explains Hodroj, adding that she is a “lover of fabric and minimalism and those two designers have incredible fabric materials and shapes to their garments. The fit and the different material combinations, soft and hard, gives the garments a special and different feeling. It’s art!”.

Hodroj is known for the high quality of her garments. “I focus a lot on the quality of my garments and make sure that it’s fair trade.” She is also a very meticulous designer, who makes sure every piece is designed and crafted under her guidance. “I produce everything locally and under my supervision”, she insists.

Taghrid Hodroj’s current line and latest collection consists mainly of dresses: “I started my brand with only dresses as I love dresses and I see it one of the main feminine garments.” But the designer’s goal is to expand with skirts, pants and tops and to be able to ship all around the world: “I want to focus more on eco-friendly fabric and prove that eco-friendly doesn’t mean simple and/or boring. I want to be the next Tesla but in fashion.”

Her latest collection is inspired by the ocean and mountains, which brings both the colors and the feeling of them. She says that her designs aim “to inspire and encourage femininity and to highlight the beauty from inside out.” The new collection’s photoshoot features model Breanna Bunevacz; it took place in Topanga, California at a house that is dedicated to reconnecting people with nature, themselves, and others, focusing on the positive energy and peaceful lifestyle.

For the impressive photoshoot, Taghrid Hodroj teamed up with Olivia Wagner, founder and creative director of L\V CONNECT\VE, a new modern community. Olivia’s first genderless collection “W A G N E R” is an innovative, empowering, timeless but timely collection that provides transformable and renewable jewelry pieces tailored to digital consumers, designed with the digital creators of today.
