I really didn’t know what to expect from this movie, but it is safe to say that Safe House is an explosive movie all the way!
BelleBeirut’s rating: ☼☼☼☼☼
The trailer looked awesome not only for the always delighting presence of Denzel Washington, but because this didn’t look like your typical mainstream “let’s put in as many explosion scenes as possible while disregarding the plot” type of movie. Then again, trailers are made to show you the best parts of a movie and in most cases you end up walking out of the movie disappointed.
Rest assured, this movie doesn’t disappoint.
Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds ) plays a CIA rookie who is the “house-keeper” of a safe house in Cape Town, South Africa. When Tobin Frost (Denzel Washington) an ex-CIA operative turned rogue is captured, he is sent to the safe house for interrogation. Things go wrong when a group of mercenaries who want to capture Frost storm in to the safe house. Weston and Frost escape and must try to stay alive until they reach the next CIA safe house.
The movie is riveting. The action sequences are a pure adrenaline rush, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The first car chase scene is one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure to sit through. The plot never bores, and even though by the end of the movie you might have figured out the twist, it’s a delight to watch things unfold.
Denzel Washington is at his best, and his presence on screen makes us remember why he is one of the greatest actors alive. Ryan Reynolds surprises as Matt Weston, immersing himself into the frustrated but highly talented rookie. Their chemistry on screen is spot on.
This movie is as good as it looks, and in this reviewer’s humble opinion, it’s well worth watching.
