The Visual and Performing Arts at the American Community School Beirut is an important component of the ACS mission and is firmly committed to arts education as an integral part of its curriculum. We want to provide our students opportunities to take creative journeys and provide our students the skills necessary to develop into creative leaders.

Currently showing at Beit Beirut is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) Visual Arts Exhibition where students are required to produce a body of work of 6-10 artworks that investigates and explores a selected concept that connects work together to form an exhibition.

  • Hania Al Mooji
  • Sherine Arnous

The IBDP course is a rigorous two-year course in exploring creative processes and developing an invested and personal contemporary art/design practice. Students engage in critical investigation and artistic production through an independent framework of personal mentorship and independent learning. Throughout the course, students develop strong relational concepts, explore and experiment with a variety of media and disciplines, take creative risks, and document their art process through critique, reflection and evaluation.

Students have produced work that explores various concepts and themes of social, political and personal issues including pressures of young women, privacy in a world that is driven by technology, corruption in Lebanon, childhood memories and the transition into adulthood, stories within Arab culture and the sentiments of love. They have produced work using a variety of media, techniques and styles including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, video, Installation, Textiles, mixed media and ceramics. Their final exhibition artworks are engaging, thought provoking and poignant.

ACS IBDP Visual Arts Exhibition opens Tuesday 4 April from 5-8pm and continues Wednesday 5 April from 11-5pm at Beit Beirut Sodeco
